Sonoran Bank Executive to Speak at Minority Enterprise Development Week Workshop
Phoenix - Frank X. Coumides, Senior Vice President of Lending for Sonoran Bank will speak at the Minority Enterprise Development Week Workshop taking place on June 10 from 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. at the ASU SkySong business and innovation center. The no-cost event, themed "The Power of Small Business in Local Economies," is one of a nationwide series of events being held for Enterprise Development (MED) Week sponsored by Arizona's Minority Enterprise Center and the United States Department of Commerce.
As a representative from one of the area's leading minority-focused financial institutions, Coumides will discuss the dynamic stronghold Hispanic entrepreneurs are gathering in the small business community. Hispanic businesses make up the fastest-growing business sector in the nation and have helped vitalize the economy in Maricopa County over the past decade.
"Even in a challenging economy, minority small businesses have maintained, created alliances, and grown stronger through difficulty," said Coumides. "We have to be focused on overcoming this obstacle by looking forward and uniting to make the community stronger." Several other minority firms will also be speaking, and five awards will be given out to small business owners. Representatives from Google, SRP, and several local businesses are also scheduled to present.
In the midst of a challenging time, Maricopa small businesses have continued to be a vital stimulus for the economy's growth. The workshop will celebrate the positive impact small businesses have made on the local economy and throughout the nation. Through a sponsorship by SRP, the McBiz organization will award five enterprises that have made an outstanding contribution to the small business community. More than 125 attendees are expected to attend.
